Chemical constituents of Simarouba versicolor Anais da ABC (AABC)
ARRIAGA,ANGELA M.C.; MESQUITA,ALDENOR C. DE; POULIQUEN,YVONE B.M.; LIMA,ROBERTO A. DE; CAVALCANTE,SERGIO H.; CARVALHO,MARIO G. DE; SIQUEIRA,JOSÉ A. DE; ALEGRIO,LEILA V.; BRAZ-FILHO,RAIMUNDO.
From the roots, stems and fruits of Simarouba versicolor (Simaroubaceae) were isolated quassinoids (3, 5-7), triterpenoids (8-14), a mixture of steroids (15-17), the flavonoid kaempferol (18) and the squalene derivative 11,14-diacetoxy-7,10; 15,18-diepoxy-6,19-dihidroxy-6,7,10,11,14,15,18,19-octahydrosqualene (19). Spectral data were used for structural characterization.

Epicuticular waxes from caatinga and cerrado species and their efficiency against water loss Anais da ABC (AABC)
Oliveira,Antonio F. M.; Meirelles,Sérgio T.; Salatino,Antonio.
The effects of the contents and chemical composition of the foliar epicuticular waxes of species from the caatinga (Aspidosperma pyrifolium, Capparis yco, Maytenus rigida and Ziziphus joazeiro) and cerrado (Aristolochia esperanzae, Didymopanax vinosum, Strychnos pseudoquina and Tocoyena formosa) were evaluated as to the resistance to water loss by means of an experimental device constructed for this purpose. In general, the waxes of the caatinga species investigated were more efficient against water loss than cerrado species. Increase of the thickness of the waxy deposits from 40 to 90m g.cm-2 had no significant effect on the resistance to water loss. The chemistry of the wax constituents was shown to be an important factor to determine the degree of...

New triterpene isolated from Eschweilera longipes (Lecythidaceae) Anais da ABC (AABC)
The phytochemical studies of Eschweilera longipes Miers (Lecythidaceae) have led to the identification of a new triterpene 3beta, 24-dihydroxyfriedelane, the known 1beta, 2beta, 3beta, 19beta-tetrahydroxyurs-12-en-28-oic acid (1beta-hydroxyeucaphic acid) besides the saponin sitosterol 3betaO-betaD-glucopyranoside. The structures were established from the IR, NMR and mass spectra data including 2D NMR experiments of natural substances and of the acetyl derivative of the new triterpene.

Oleanonic acid from Lippia lupulina (Verbenaceae) shows strong in vitro antileishmanial and antitrypanosomal activity Acta Amazonica
FUNARI,Cristiano S.; ALMEIDA,Letícia de; PASSALACQUA,Thais G.; MARTINEZ,Isabel; AMBRÓSIO,Daniela L.; CICARELLI,Regina Maria B.; SILVA,Dulce Helena S.; GRAMINHA,Márcia A. S..
ABSTRACT Leishmaniasis and Chagas disease affect millions of people in tropical and subtropical regions. Drugs used currently to treat such diseases often present undesirable side effects and low efficiency. The aim of this work was to identify extracts and isolated compounds from the genus Lippia with leishmanicidal and trypanocidal activity. Fifteen extracts from different plant parts of Lippia species with partially known chemical compositions, four partition fractions, six compounds and a mixture of four interconverting flavanones previously isolated from Lippia salviaefolia and Lippia lupulina were assayed in vitro towards epimastigote forms of Trypanosoma cruzi and promastigote forms of Leishmania amazonensis. The root extract of L. lupulina had...
